Hey, it’s April!!! We haven’t seen too much spring weather yet but it is coming and so are the 968 events. Let me share the details with you.
April 23rd – 968 Celebration – Annual PCA swap meet at Hershey PA – This is a low-keyed event this year. On Friday night (4/22) a few 968ers are gathering at the Hilton Garden Inn located in Hershey to talk 968s. We’ll be there around 6:30pm after dinner. The plan is to hang out in the parking lot until it starts to get dark and then move inside to the bar for a drink or two. Saturday morning we’ll see everyone at the event. You can park in the concours if you want (there is an additional $10 fee which goes to charity) or in the Porsche parking area. No schedule for the day. Just hang out, look at the cars and socialize. Nothing planned for Saturday night or Sunday.
The link to the event site is below. I hope to see you there.

July 31st – Aug 6th – 2011 Porsche club Parade held in Savannah GA – THE BIG ONE!!!
If you’ve been to a Parade before you know what a great event these are and having it in Savannah is only going to make it better. I’ve not been there but I’m told Savannah has amazing personality and it is a place to see. Fellow 968er and Savannah resident Joel Carter has been very generous in helping me organize a special event for the 968ers. Our PCA 968 register event will be held Monday night following the Parade concours. We’ll be meeting at Tubby’s in Thunderbolt GA (about 10 minutes from Parade headquarters)

We have a special parking area and a room reserved for the 968ers. Some special 968s will be in attendance. We’ll meet at 5pm and socialize until 7pm when we’ll have dinner. The menu consists of “Low-country boil” which consists of shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn plus SOUTHERN fried chicken, red rice, cole slaw, and a soft drink, served buffet style and all for $27.50. We’ll spend an hour enjoying the food and fun and then move to our own room at 8pm where we’ll have our 968
presentation. As promised, for the first time ever, I’ll be doing my presentation on North American 968 coupe production. By the time I’m done you’ll all be 968 coupe experts! After the presentation we’ll ontinue to talk more about 968s and socializing and call it a night around 10pm. We are talking about some additional events as well so stay tuned. This will be the 968 event of the year so if you are thinking about it, go for it! I’ll be driving Minty down from CT with the family (in a chase car). I’ll need
a head count for dinner and I will be collecting funds so let me know if you are interested. Parade registration is still open so don’t wait.

September 14th – 17th – 2011 Porsche club Escape in Flagstaff Az – 968er Dick Petticrew has arranged for one of the many tours taking place in Northern Arizona as part of this event to be a 968 Roundup. This tour will go deep into Hopi (HO-pee) Tribal Lands, which are surrounded by the Navajo Reservation. Most Hopi live in pueblo villages on or near three mesas in NE Arizona. Some villages contain dwellings that are centuries old; Old Oraibi, on Third Mesa, has been occupied since at least 1150. We will travel through Kykotsmovi enroute to the Hopi Cultural Center. Here we will find a museum and products of the Hopi people: coiled baskets, Kachina dolls, silver and turquoise jewelry. A native hoop dance will be presented. From here we proceed to Winslow on one of the longer and rather desolate straight roads you’ve ever experienced. In Winslow we will visit the La Posada Inn, an historic inn once operated by the Sante Fe Railroad during the 1930’s and 40’s, where we will have lunch in its reincarnated Harvey’s operated restaurant. Winslow is also the sight of the “Standing on the corner . . .” We look forward to having a large representation of our favorite: the 968. Registration for Escape opens on April 20 – a word to the wise: do not delay as capacity is limited and is expected to fill within days. The last Escape in Vancouver sold out in 2 days. For full information on Escape go to the National web site under Activities, or contact Dick Petticrew (Dick Petticrew rpcrew@cox.net).
I had some trouble with the March e-newsletter so I’m sending out the same featured 968 for April since many missed it. This is a very special car that was on eBay a few months back. It was a fully loaded 95 Polar silver cab with very low mileage but what made it truly special was its interior. It featured the optional “special” Provence Blue/Midnight Blue full leather interior, This interior cost $4,603 back in 1995. This cab is the only North American cab produced with the optional interior. There was also only one coupe produced with the same interior. The car sold and I hope to see it someday. Check out the photos below for a look at this truly special interior.
So, get ready for spring and mark your calendars for the events you might like to attend. Don’t forget to get those registrations in. I hope to see you at an event!
