The numbers below come from three independent sources. Where they disagree, we’ve noted likely explanations — for example, the gap between Morgan’s build figures and PCNA’s sales figures is partially accounted for by Canadian sales and a probable 240/240 over-count in the published book.

Reconciling the build / sales gap. The PCNA letter shows 2,095 coupes and 1,944 cabs sold. Morgan’s book states 2,214 coupes and 2,248 cabs built — a difference of 322 coupes and 304 cabs. We have reason to believe Morgan’s figures are too high by 240 coupes and 240 cabs. Subtract those and the difference drops to 82 coupes and 64 cabs, which is likely Canadian sales. Supporting this: Jeff Coe ran the US/CDN cabriolet registry for 5 years and registered 579 cabs — not a single one with a VIN starting before 840061.
